Theatrical performance

El libro infinito. Biblioteca Nacional de España, tres siglos

The Biblioteca Nacional de España and Acción Cultural Española present the theatre performance entitled El libro infinito. Biblioteca Nacional de España, tres siglos (The Infinite Book. Biblioteca Nacional de España, Three Centuries). Based on a script by José Ramón Fernández and directed by Fefa Noia, this work commemorates the tercentenary of the foundation of the Biblioteca Nacional de España by King Philip V, based on the texts written by the same author for the Viaje al interior de la cultura (A Trip Inside Culture) programme organised by Telefónica, in which the BNE has been taking part since 2009.

It is a play in which characters associated with the institution and its collections review its history, its dedication and functions over the past three hundred years, on a trip through different points in time and settings in which the Library truly played a starring role.

Through the tales of Philip V, who signed the foundation decree in 1711, Miguel de Cervantes, Francisco de Goya, Francisco Asenjo Barbieri and the Biblioteca Nacional de España itself, the audience will discover our country's oldest cultural institution.
