Miradas a otros museos

This is not an itinerant exhibition, nor is it a new selection of master pieces, but rather individual pieces from the BNE collection that will be loaned to different museums, with each institution receiving a piece appropriate to their focus. These unique pieces from the BNE will establish an enriching dialogue with the museums that receive them. In this way, emblematic works from the BNE of every type - manuscripts, prints, sketches, engravings, maps, photographs - can help explain the iconography of a work, show the preparatory sketches for a particular painting, or the actual book that a figure is holding in their hand, or contextualise the content of a permanent exhibition.

The works from the BNE will be on show in the most important museums in Madrid. Some of the institutions will be receiving them because their collections also come from royal collections – the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Arqueológico Nacional, the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, the Palacio Real- others because they are National Museums –Museo Nacional del Romanticismo, Museo de América- and others because of the magnitude and diversity of their collections, such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo Thyssen Bornemisza and the Museo de la Real Academia de San Fernando.

The pieces from the BNE will also be on show in at least one museum in each of the Spain's Autonomous Communities. They will preferably be exhibited in state-owned museums, and for this reason the library has the support of the Ministry of Culture General Department of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets.

Each of the host institutions will be asked to erect a panel with information on the history, archives and objectives of the BNE to mark its Tercentenary.

The exhibition has been organised by Juan Manuel Bonet, art critic, writer and former Director of the Museo de Arte Reina Sofía and of the IVAM.
