The collection of engravings can be considered one of the most important in Spain, in terms of both quantity and quality. It holds works by the greatest artists, dating from the late 15th century to the present day. Through these works we can study the development of different artistic styles, from the late Gothic to the latest trends in modern engraving, and different engraving techniques, from woodcuts to the newest digital techniques and including copper engraving techniques, lithography, serigraphy, additive techniques and digital techniques.
The major schools of engraving are represented, European for the most part, with a special focus on the collection of Spanish engravings. This collection, in particular, continues to grow as a result of the Legal Deposit Act and donations from publishers of graphic works, workshops and individual artists.
