WI-FI service
The Biblioteca Nacional provides users with laptop PCs with wireless (WI-FI) Internet access in all of its reading rooms. Users are therefore able to use the WI-FI service to browse the Internet from their laptop PC free of charge.
Service usage conditions
Any library user with their own laptop PC may use this service.
If the user's laptop PC is equipped with the appropriate technology, they will be able to access the Internet from the reading rooms simply by opening their browser.
The Biblioteca Nacional offers two alternatives to users whose laptop PCs do not include this feature as standard: BRIDGE ETHERNET and PCMCIA card. Both of these may be requested from the librarian in the reading room in which the user is working.
Procedure to request access to the WI-FI service if your laptop PC does not include this feature as standard
1. Take your laptop PC and proof of identity (national identity card, passport, driving licence) to the librarian in the reading room and, once they have checked these two items, they will provide you with the appropriate equipment.
2. If a PCMCIA card is required, and if it is the first time that you have requested one, the librarian will give you a CD-ROM containing the software that you need to install. This should be installed in the librarian's presence and the CD-ROM should then be returned. The software only needs to be installed the first time that you request the service. The PCMCIA card will then be installed and it will take about five minutes to connect to the system.
3. If you request the BRIDGE ETHERNET option, it will not be necessary to install any software and the system will be configured automatically.
4. Once the session has finished, take your laptop PC to the librarian who, after removing the equipment used, will return your proof of identity.
5. If you have any queries or encounter any problems regarding the use of this service, please do not hesitate to ask the library staff in the reading rooms for help.
