For more than 300 years, the mission of Biblioteca Nacional de España has been to preserve and pass on Spain’s bibliographic and documentary heritage. It aims to give back to society the immense cultural legacy of its collections, promoting the greatest possible access to, use of and reuse of the information it holds and generates for the benefit of society.

As a result of its desire for openness, and based on the principles of transparency, citizen involvement and collaboration expressed in Law 19/2013, on Transparency, Access to Public Information and Good Governance, Biblioteca Nacional de España is providing this Transparency space to show the public how decisions affecting the institution are made, how its public holdings are managed, and what are its criteria for action. It is therefore providing all interested parties with easy access to the most important information about BNE's activities, in recognition of citizens’ right to access information.

We will gradually make information about Biblioteca Nacional de España's activities available to the public until we are able to offer a Transparency and Open Data Portal.
