How to get the reproductions

Self-Service:

  • Photocopies: Users may only make a maximum of 20 of a single work (monographs) or of a single issue (newspapers and journals), and may only make photocopies of works published from 1958 onwards.
    Users are prohibited from reproducing more than one third of a work and may only reproduce works that are judged to be in a good state of conservation by the librarian responsible for the archive.
    If the state of conservation of a work does not permit photocopying, reproductions may be taken from microfilm.
    Photocopying of works should be performed with special care, avoiding forcing the publication open so as to prevent damage to the same
     
  • Copies on paper from microfilm or digital media

By Order:

Applicants may order the following reproductions from the Reproductions Office (Oficina de Reprografía) located on the 2nd floor of the library:

  • Copies on paper from microfilm or digital media:
    Reproduction of complete works: Maximum of 5 volumes per order.
    Partial reproductions: Maximum of 50 copies per order.
    Newspapers (any period): Maximum of 10 complete issues or 10 separate articles per order.
     
  • Photographic reproductions:
    Maximum of 25 reproductions per order.
  • Microfilm:
    Maximum of 5 volumes per order (35 mm roll).
    Reproductions of fragments or parts of works are not provided on microfilm (with the exception of newspapers and journals that have not previously been microfilmed); only complete works may be reproduced
  • Digital reproductions:
    Reproduction of complete works: Maximum of 5 volumes per order.
    Partial reproductions: Maximum of 25 images per order.
    Reproductions of digital editions: complete reproductions only.
  • Sound and audiovisual recordings:
    Maximum of 10 sound recording titles. Maximum of 3 video recording titles.

On receiving an application, Biblioteca Nacional staff will quote a fee based on the current price schedule. When receipt of payment of the same is confirmed by Banco de España, library staff will reproduce the requested archives.

Prices stated in the schedule include VAT, but not postage.

Please note that technical issues may mean that the final reproduction fee is lower than initially quoted. In this case, the Biblioteca Nacional will reimburse the applicant the difference. If the final fee is higher than initially quoted, the applicant will pay the Biblioteca Nacional the difference.
