- Books held in the general repositories, either on the original medium or as reproductions. General reference collection (unrestricted access), which consists of encyclopaedias in Spanish and other languages, dictionaries, biographical directories and historical introductions to all of the subjects ordered as per the Universal Decimal Classification, and collections of texts.

- Unrestricted access:
The reference works are directly accessible to users and do not need to be requested. - On request:
Readers can request up to 3 works at a time. Waiting time is between 30 and 45 minutes. Each reader may reserve up to 3 works for a maximum period of 7 calendar days. Books held in repositories off-site should be requested 48 hours in advance. - Remote request:
In order to eliminate waiting time, readers can request up to 10 works by submitting the form found on the copies page of the catalogue.

Servicio de reproducciones:
A maximum of 20 photocopies may be made of works published from 1958 onwards, provided that they are in a good state of conservation. Other reproductions should be requested from the Reproductions service.
Use of PCs:
The PCs in the General Reading Room may be used to search the Biblioteca Nacional's catalogue , other information resources and other libraries' catalogues.
Readers may also use laptop PCs in this room. The Biblioteca Nacional provides wireless (WI-FI) Internet access in this room free of charge.
