Collection Comín Colomer
The collection specialising in contemporary history of spain “ Comín Colomer ” is one of the most unique collections which houses the national library. Constituted a special section (missing as such today) in 1981, with deposit and reading room, integrated themselves by funds from the old Section of Studies on the war in spain (dependent on the technical secretariat of the ministry of information and tourism) and collected by Eduardo Comín Colomer and donated by his widow, Julia Martín, the national library in 1975.
Eduardo Comín Colomer (Zaragoza 1908-Madrid 1975), who became director of the General Police School, director of the Institute of Police Studies and Police Commissioner, was always linked to the political police of Franco's regime and to the Jewish-Masonic-Communist conspiracy theory. As a writer and as a policeman he was obsessed with Freemasonry and Judaism, but also with anarchism, terrorism, Communism and everything that he considered the “enemies of Spain”. Comín was a great collector of books and pamphlets, especially anti-Masonic works, works that show the link between Freemasonry and Judaism, by authors linked to the extreme right and fascism, but also works written by the “enemies of the state” communists and Freemasons. This legacy, known by researchers as the “Comín collection”, consists of some 15,000 books, newspapers and pamphlets that are difficult to find today, dealing with the following topics:
- General History.
- History of Spain in the Second Republic and the Civil War, political and social movements, anarchism, communism, fascism…
- Police issues and famous crimes.
- Freemasonry and secret societies.
It constitutes what is possibly the best existing bibliographic collection on the Spanish Civil War, gathered, in part, through the political activity of Comín Colomer. At present, there is no independent section; the collection is kept in the General Deposit and can be consulted, using a reader's card, in the María Moliner Reading Room and in the Larra Press and Magazine Room. The Bibliographic Information Service guides readers about this collection and about other specialized libraries and centers.
