Ephemera
In the service of drawings and engravings there were a number of works with a physical characteristics and similar content, in 1991, become an integral Ephemera collection of the Biblioteca Nacional which has been supplemented in order to assemble a "extensive and varied range of pictorial developed with a specific purpose that their aim is to survive the timeliness of its message".
There were registered, and symbol of inventory (loose works), ER and BA (books), various collections of stickers, boxes of matches, calendars, posters, congratulations, and an interesting orlas (labels raisins and boxes of oranges from the late nineteenth century. It has found an extraordinary collection of several thousand boxes of matches of the most important brands of spanish and foreign factories, a great wealth in terms of quantity, thematic and techniques.
In addition, had brought in only a few years earlier, by purchase, a magnificent collection of cuban cigarreras marquillas and another for congratulation, reminders and business cards. The Assembly were identified and transferred a number of boxes containing printed brochures and flyers, from the old Room of Several, some of them illustrated (menus, price lists, itineraries, etc.). On the other hand were located and transferred several collections of previous tear-off year 1950 deposited so far in the section in the Literature.
Throughout these years has been applied to the purchase of collections of Ephemera including: a collection of labels of cigars, called "" allotments, other labels of drinks, both belonging to a time period between 1880 and 1930; a collection of advertising paipais 40-50 years; and a smaller number of packets of cigarettes of. They have subsequently purchased several collections of stickers of Apeles Mestres, two Albums of christmas greetings of offices, other invitations, programmes and driving dance and a considerable number of cards with publicity of pharmaceutical products of the 1930s, 40 and 50 of the twentieth century.
Also important are the donations received such as tear-off a collection of the early twentieth century, an album of labels of condensed milk for the time of the spanish Civil war, a teatrito and other games on cardboard, devotional prints, boxes of matches, cards and labels, etc. More recently received major gifts contemporary printed materials.
In 2003 it issued the catalogue "Ephemera. Life on" role which unites around 80 000 works ordered according to the different types of materials. The catalogue provides all the information for each of them: relations of content, theme, technical, illustrators, editors, workshops, brands, factories and manufacturers of products and commercial establishments, enterprises and businesses, etc.
The Collection of Ephemera of the Biblioteca Nacional meeting approximately one hundred thousand images that offer a wide variety in terms of various technical and thematic. Chronologically occurred within a period between the mid-nineteenth century and mid-twentieth century. The classification of different materials has been made based on the content and, so far includes: congratulations, reminders and other devotional prints, invitations, programmes, cards and offers of dance orchestras, yearbooks, pocket calendars, posters, paipais labels and packaging of commercial products (tobacco, alcoholic, perfumes and cosmetics, food etc.), stickers, postcards and games such as tear-off and theatres. These materials have been incorporated new collections of cards, cards of scales, invoices and role of charter, points of reading, product labels, etc.
Among the highlights some of the best spanish amateur in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries: Eusebio Planas, Tomás Gaspar, Apeles Mestres, ramón Casas, Ricardo Opisso, Gaspar Camps, Luis Labarta, Juan García Junceda, Alejandro de Riquer, josé Cusachs, Carlos Ruano Llopis, Arturo Mélida, Manuel Tovar, Jaime Pahissa, josé Pla Narbona, José Segrelles, etc.
With regard to thematic abound portraits, cartoons, allegoric figures and mythological personages, religious, historical scenes, illustrated, reproductions of paintings, views and scenery, transport, etc.
Sub-collections
Due to gender disparity and historical richness documentary ephemeral graphic materials are some of the main Ephemera collections of the BNE grouped into five sections in response to the purpose for which these documents were produced. However, it should be noted that on many occasions, the same type of material meets more than a purpose.
