Room documents
Drawings, engravings, illustrated books with original prints, ephemera and bookplates, posters, photographs and ancient and modern maps.
How to access them?
- For the original graphic and cartographic material that is kept in the room, it is essential to have a researcher's card.
- Advance request. It is advisable to use this service since it allows you to reserve documents from the catalog before coming to the Library. It is not possible to make an advance request through the application of the following types of documents: drawings, engravings, photographs, ephemera, maps and plans. Your advance request will be made by email to the Chamber (sala.goya@bne.es). The advance request for the posters kept at the Alcalá Headquarters (signatures AHC/ and AHCC/) will be made from the Library's own online catalogue.

Maps manuscripts
The collection of manuscript maps of the Biblioteca Nacional is of great interest. Many of them, the most important, are in the Manuscripts Service, included in different works; also preserved are Portolan charts, maps and charts on separate sheets.
Printed/old maps
The documentary base of the Biblioteca Nacional Cartography Service are the holdings which came from the Biblioteca Real and the cartography collections of the former Geographical Office of the First Secretariat of State and the Universal Office.

Latin America
The core of the modern Latin American holdings (which includes the Philippines for historical reasons) comprises the collection of the former Latin America Department, created in 1949 and dissolved in 1992.
Modern cartography
Since 1958, through the Copyright Library Act, the Biblioteca Nacional has received copies of all maps published. These are maps that are both loose sheets and forming a series, published by government agencies, public and private entities or Autonomous Communities.
Celestial maps
The collection of celestial maps for the BNE consists of a broad representation of case studies from earlier rows, tables or star catalogs, who tried to explain the regular movements of bright spots in the night sky, until the bulky atlas of the 17th to 19th centuries, period of the star atlas published more beautiful.
